Hey guys,

New to the forum, been riding since 2011.

Stumbled across this FZ 07 in April 2015 at Cycles 128 and fell in love.

Finally getting around to my own build / maintenance thread.

Thanks for having me on board!

Thanks! I changed a decent amount of the front end of the bike after a bad crash in October 2016. The rear end is still stock, with exception to the massive side cases and top case from Shad USA.

Down the road I'm looking at R1 front end swap, and an upgraded rear shock.

The difficulty I'm having is whether to tune the suspension to all the extra touring weight? Then, if I remove the bags and top case, and even the rails, I'm left with a front heavy bike that has been tuned for 100 pounds extra weight in the back.

Rear shocks can be removed rather easily, but the R1 front suspension will be a "permanent" upgrade, as I'll need to use the R1 triples, and most likely get a custom upper triple to still keep the handlebar mounts which I view as a must (efff clipons lol).

I see you have the protapers on, looks like the evo bend, nice. My intent on the FZ is to build out a GNC (Grand National Championship) version.
Protaper EVO bars, but the YZ High bend :)

What's a GNC version? Never heard that term before.

Hey guys, almost completed the R1 front end swap. Here are some teaser before and after pics.

Ran into the usual issues, R1 steering stem too short, R1 ignition hitting frame tube, etc.

Still working a few of those out, but the main issues were fixed to get to this point (GSX-R 600 steering stem pressed into R1 upper triple).

Also have the Speigler handlebar conversion kit ordered for my 2006 YZF-R1 front end. This custom upper triple comes with handlebar mounts and a superbike handlbar. It also comes with custom stainless steel brake lines which are longer than the OEM lines for the R1 clip ons.

Super excited about this swap. Here's what still needs to be done:

1) Brake lines emptied, calipers mounted, Spiegler lines installed.

2.) Front wheel painted to match FZ-07 blue

3.) R1 Front fairing sourced or custom fabricated, painted as well.

4.) FZ 07 dash mounting

5.) FZ 07 ignition mouting (maybe in upper triple, maybe hidden elsewhere.

6.) Front tire for R1 rim

7.) Rear fairing eliminator

Down the road....

8.) Rear shock upgrade

9.) Corbin seat

10.) Heated grips

11.) R1 50 mm or 75 mm (2 in or 3 in) front fork extenders from Extreme Creations.
