I took my bike to the dealer for a break-in service and they said I might need a valve adjustment. I always noticed the engine had a "kind of" clicking sound but it never crossed my mind it was the valves at such an early stage. Has anyone been told this before?

Here is a link to a video showing where the noise is coming from:

NinjaMonkey, I realize this is an old post, but what did your problems turn out to be? I rode a 2015 FZ-07 with no tapping. I loved it so much I bought a new one off the floor. It's in the shop right now for my first 600 mile maintenance with bad tapping that came about at 500 400 miles and got worse. Service says it's the Cam Chain Tensioner, which they are talking to Yamaha about warranty coverage now. It seems too early for valve issues and even for CCT, which I would think would be at least a few thousand miles in...if that. I'm a bit worried and now thinking of buying into Yamaha's YES extended warranty protection plan for another 4 years. A new babied bike shouldn't be doing this, so I am curious as to your outcome. Thanks!

Cam chain tensinoers have been a problem with the FZ-09 too. There are a few youtube video's describing the noise and some people have had repeat problems after they were fixed. Hope this is not the case for you.
Barco,
I got the bike back after weeks at the shop :-( for a simple CCT replacement, which they say was bad and the only one they ever saw on an FZ07 and a bike this young. They said time to fix was a Yamaha part order delay (who knows). Anyway, it sounded fine when I left the service department but within a few miles it came back. Needless to say, I won't be going back there.

With further investigation online, I have read of the FZ09's being known for this and met a guy with a 2015 09 just starting to hear it at 1200 miles. The shop told me I shouldn't install a manual CCT because I could over crank it and cause serious damage to the engine. Also, doing so will void the warranty. So, without having to pony up $ for a second opinion, it sounds like these bikes are noisy on the front and I might need to let go unless it gets worse. It's just so hard to accept on a virgin bike that has been babied and it worries me when I ride, when I shouldn't have to do anything but enjoy my ride.

I still have some time to buy into an extended warranty and I might for piece of mind, though this is why I bought a new bike...not to have to worry of issues and warranties. If anyone else has experienced this, had their bike in for service about it or any other info to offer here, I would be appreciative of any input.

Thanks
