Found a great deal on a 2016 FZ 09 and got a good price for my 07 to boot so last Saturday I loaded up the Seven and took her for my last ride (in an enclosed trailer) and came back with my new Nine. Couldn't pass up the deal. Thanks to the transaction, I ran into an old buddy I used to ride with when I had my FZ1. We both had FZ1's at the time and now, four years later we both have FZ09's. We live at opposite ends of the state, but bought our bikes within a month or so of each other, and from the same dealer which isn't in either of our home towns. We haven't even spoken to each other in at least three years till I saw his name on the FZ 09 forum. Amazing!

hey Mustang,

congrats on your new purchase! how would you compare the throttle response of the 07 and the 09??

Is the 09 throttle as zappy as they say? I sat on both at the dealership before deciding on my 07, because I had better ground clearance on it , also the salesman told me the 07 is more comfortable for longer rides and handled easier. what is your experience with your 09?

cheers from Calgary

I've only been able to get about 50 miles on the new bike since I bought it (it's been a nasty spring here in northern Michigan). The FZ07 has a better seat in my opinion but there is a company that sells new foam and covers for about $200 that hopefully will help that out. Although the very early FZ09's had very snatchy throttles, my 2016 is just as docile as my FZ07 was. When it comes to overall size and ground clearance, they are very close, in fact, I think the FZ07 is just a tic longer, like less than a half inch and of course the FZ09 is about 18 lbs. heavier. The handlebars are a little wider on the FZ09 which I happen to like and because of that, I think the FZ09 handles a bit better and that may just be because I like a slightly wider bar. Where the main and most obvious difference is, in the power band, with an additional 40 or so H.P. the 09 has a big power advantage when the grip is turned. But, in everyday around town riding, they are close in response and the 09 shows it's power advantage only when large amount of throttle are used. They are both very good bikes in my opinion and I probably would have just kept the 07 is I hadn't found the 09 for a very good price ($7299). One thing I know I'll miss is the MPG, I was getting over 60 with the 07 and the 09 is advertised at about 44 and it will probably get about 40 I would imagine.
