I received my recall notice today. I contacted the dealership and the part is ordered. You must call ahead since the parts are ordered by VIN.
John, after adding a full system to almost any bike, you need some way to modify the Air/Fuel ratio or the motor will be running in a lean condition. How lean? You can't tell for sure without having either a dyno run or the auto-tune setup from Power Commander. There may be other systems out there also, but I used the P.C. as an example. Running lean will certainly not do the motor any favors and there is always a possibility, albeit not likely unless the bike is run very hard in hot conditions, that you could burn a hole in the pistons from being too lean. Again, not very likely unless......can you run the bike without the PCV or filter?
You are NOT actually remapping the ECU (unless you get it flashed....then there is no real need for the PCV), you are "piggy-backing" the ECU's signal for fueling the bike. The ECU sends out the appropriate signals to the fuel injectors, but if you have the Power Commander installed, those signals go to the P.C. and it modifies them according to the map that is loaded into it, then sends the signals on to the fuel injectors for the proper A/F ratios.I have new grips but not installed yet. You can run the bike without the PCV but when you change the exhaust and filter it changes the fuel/air mix and the PCV allows you to remap the ECU for your specific parts. I'm not an expert but that's what I believe to be close to true lol. I'll put some pics up later.
