Shattered clutches.

Hi everyone this is my first post here.

Last week my bike was making a rattlng noise. I know this is common for these bikes but this one was distinct enough for my wife to ask me what was wrong with my bike.

When setting off or feathering the clutch there was a rattle, almost sounded like electrical sparking/snapping coming from the clutch cover. I called the dealer to inquire and there were no active TSBs or anything they have seen out of the FZ-07 relating to my problem. They said my warranty would not cover the repair if it was a clutch problem so I decided to investigate. I pulled the clutch cover and behold, I could see 2 friction discs were shattered. The bike felt no different to oppereate. Ordered some EBC CK Series clutch disks since my bike has only 6.5k miles on it at the time of this post. If you had more miles I'd say get an entire kit with springs and plates as well.

I hope this post is welcome as I have already diagnosed and fixed the problem. Just wanted to let people know that someone has had this issue and it.s easily fixed in an afternoon. Probably slipping the clutch one too many times when I was learning to wheelie.

What year is your fz? I'm trying to replace my clutches and steels but I can't find any kits? I've heard of EBC but they only sell the Clutch plates. Is that all I need? I'm still looking at how to take off the clutch cover. there are coolant lines and other things in the way. I'll need to investigate further.

No need to remove the coolant pump or it's lines. It's a sealed system behind the case cover.

As for the clutch, Rekluse makes a Torq-drive kit for the MT-07. Comes with springs and stainless steel plate ear slides to prevent notching of the clutch basket. Also drastically more plates then stock. Lastly, the plates are composed of steel rather then aluminum... which the oem plates are.
