Soooo..... I bought pretty much the only red FZ-07 in southern california on July 4th (MURICA!!!!) and immediately fell in love. Too many reasons to name considering this was my upgrade from a 2013 cbr250r which I totalled a little over 2 weeks ago. The next day after buying my FZ-07, while i was coming up to a light at about 45-50mph (~60kpm) that was just dropping from green to yellow, a lady decided to pull out through the intersection across the lane i was about to be in. Immediately applied brakes but realized i wasnt gona have enough time to stop i released the brakes and tried to lean out of the way (which probably wouldnt have happened anyway) and still slick tires (~66miles on them) dropped me. me and my bike slid about 75 feet (~25m) and it scratched the whole left side. crank case cover has a hole in it, the front fork is scratched, the plastic tank guards are scratched, the passenger peg is scratched, shifter arm is all bent weird, pretty much everything that sticks out is scratched to some degree. SOME OF THE PARTS THAT I DAMAGED HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN PRICED IN THE US YET!!!!!!! and Im getting the only crank case cover in the West Coast. Sorry everyone else. Hopefully be back on the road by the end of the day today. But please feel free to post your horror stories.
p.s. aside from a small fracture on my elbow and a hemotoma on my leg from the first accident and some mild road rash from this one, Im perfectly fine. except my pride. that's currently in a coma on life support.

Sorry to hear the bad news Mick, was the lady an S.O.B (senile old bastard) yes this can include women of great wrinklage and low libido, if so then that would be expected. Why people just can't watch, the age old question. Well you can't solve stupid, wish there were equations to solve for the small minded apes out there, then again I am asking for too much.
Glad to see you are typing on the forums and that this wasn't a different scenario Mick.

Well the mechanics did what ever magic they did and got the new crank case on there, straightened my shifter, and replaced my mirrior. the mechanic also test rode to make sure everything was right and he wants one. At my 600 mile maintenance theyr gona finish the work that needs to be done (minor ish body work) and put on whatever sliders and after market i can get for it. the bike is full functional right now and its up to 85 miles. Ive named her Leeloo from the 5th element cuz its tiny, red (close enough to orange), and i think it secretly wants to kill me.
I was wearing an HJC cl16 which is a pos but solid as a rock, a flex series 3 tourmaster jacket (semi survived 2 accidents), jeans which are pretty wrecked, whatever leather riding gloves, and boots. I know how to fall down and not get hurt too bad. i have road rash on my knee and a lil chunk on my back. But really what hurts the most is my pride. Ill post pictures tomorrow if I can. btw i also have the Yamaha engine sliders waiting for me at the 600 mile maintenance.

The jacket is black (good point on the hi vis) and nope straight denim. ill try and post a pic of my knee too but you guys wont like it. The way I look at jackets is how dense is the outside layer, can i remove all the layers, how thick is it all, how many/ what kind/ placement of the plates (mine are composite of some sort but it feels like flexible ceramic, almost like a bullet proof vest material), and will you overheat on a hot day. One thing i definitely noticed is there is almost no light coming from the back of the bike at night while the front is super bright. im thinkn about upgrading the license plate light and brake light and see if that helps at all.

So here are the damages: The crank case has been replaced and try and find a pic of the damaged one, the mirror, clutch lever, and foot peg have been replaced, the shifter is on back order so the damaged on was straightened, and they did whatever they did to the engine.

So $1000+ in damage and if you went to the doctor, probably $1000 for an ER visit. Even if you have insurance, this should come from her insurance if the police report was in your favor. In addition, she would be looking at a hefty fine and probably loss of license for driving without insurance. What's going on with that?

no hospital visit. And there was no police report, 3 cops drove by but none stopped. And she hasnt called my insurance back yet. I have full everything insurance though. I was paying around 200 a month for my cbr250. I got the initial repair done and the shop is gona send them an estimate of how much all the repairs will be and the insurance will send me a check for that minus my deductible. This is because the bike is so new they cant do the full repairs at once. maybe not even in 2 goes considering some of the parts may not available yet. I honestly have no idea about any of the whos paying for what but the most i even have to pay is $500. i just know what ever % of the repairs they get from her ill get that % of my $500 deductible back.
also heres the crank case cover damage. the photo was taken at night

Probably if there was no police report, you are on your own. I doubt you can collect anything from her or her insurance. Not sure how that works though. It does seem like she should be facing some fines for having no insurance, but that money probably wouldn't go to you. I wondered, cause I only carry liability, so in something like this, I would have to foot the bill for everything...actually did once...$1600 for fairing repair when someone in a pick-up caught the edge of my Gixxer turning and backing out of the space next to me and dragged my bike back 5 feet from it's parking place. That would have been their fault and covered by their insurance...if they would have stuck around.

Could have been worse. I wouldn't have gone to the ER for that injury either. You gotta be tough when you ride motorcycles.

Ive gotten worse road rash from my beach cruiser. The way insurance works is they take care of everything then they would go after her for the cost repairs, if they found her at fault during their investigation. they may report her to the police if they have her on recording admitting to not having insurance but im sure everything will find some way to work out. but again at most i pay $500 for my deductible and ive already paid for $440 worth of the repairs. im not too concerned. And im sorry that happened to ur gixer a similar thing happened to my budy's ninja 250 but he saw it happen and the lady didnt have insurance so she gave him $4000 cash

Interesting idea having a camera to document stuff, but I haven't done it. We do seem to be moving in that direction. You sure see a lot of videos where the camera was very useful in documenting what (really) happened. And if it wasn't favorable, it's erasable.

Count me in this thread. Dropped her today, let me explain.

New rider but I did ride when I was younger. I've put 300+ miles on her and was really getting the hang of her very quick. I spent about 100 miles on back roads, very twisty, and with a lot of stops. Had that all down and full of confidence. That is until a cop starting following me for a couple of miles. We were on roads with paved shoulders for a couple of miles while following me, but he decides to turn the lights on (on) a road with gravel shoulders. I pulled over and was going about 2-3 miles per hour and put too much front brake and the front wheel slipped, dropping the bike. My heart sank. Why did he pull me over? He saw the dealer tags and thought it might be stolen. Nice guy, he said he was a rider too, but still pulled me over in gravel. Not a lot of damage, mostly to my ego. A few scratches that I already buffed out. You'd have to really look to see the few others. I'm going to take it to a good mechanic next week to have it looked at just in case, though I rode it another 50 miles back to home free of issues.

At least that's out of the way. Sheesh.
