Day two of riding when my bike cycled power on me and had smoke coming from under the seat. I pulled it off and found this. It looks like the dealer may have had issues getting the positive terminal to fit properly with the battery tie down (??? metal bracket that runs over the top of the battery), so they may have tried to bend it. I think that's why it looks cracked. None the less, the close proximity of the terminal to the bracket caused it to arc through the insulation and melt everything seen here. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident and my dealer is the one to blame, but I'd recommend everyone to check their batteries just in case. I know I read somewhere here about stalling issues, this may be to blame because that's exactly what happened when I discovered this. The bike cycled power and stalled out. Power came back and it fired right back up. I would have never noticed if it was for my friend telling me I had a puff of smoke coming out from under my seat.

I would be visiting my dealer very soon, and showing him the damage and the carelessness of their actions. They need to make EVERYTHING that was damaged right.........For free of course.

First call I made, lol. They came right away with a truck and trailer and picked it up. They said they can't explain how it happened. They had it brought in from another dealer where it was assembled out of the crate. They said they'll be replacing the cable and want to run a diagnostics to make sure the ecu wasn't harmed.

I agree, I'm just glad it happened in a parking lot and not my first trip out on the road. I was literally getting ready to take my first venture. That would have sucked.

By any chance would someone be willing to post a pic of how that cable is suppose to look? I'm just curious if mine was installed 90 degrees or even 180 out, and that's why the damn tech felt the need to man handle and bust the thing.

Yup, my battery looks completely different. 180 and backwards...ish. Here's a pic of the temp fix. They said the oem cable is on back order until the 15th of September. All other electronics checked out fine. I wonder why my battery is different???

Engine guards looking good, got me thinking to get those instead of frame sliders, how much weight does it add to bike?and how much did they cost? Good luck with your battery I hope you get that straighten out.
Thanks. Yamaha wants like $220 for them. Which is why I was also going to get the frame sliders instead. But my dealer gave me a $100 gift card for being a veteran and they also give me 15% off everything in the store. So they were only $92 when it was all said and done.

That's the set I was looking at. To be honest, I'll probably still get it. The whole kit that is. It's my first bike and I'm über paranoid that I'm going to lay it down and it'll all fall to pieces, lol. Besides that's also a really good deal.
